Free bus travel for Perth in December

People will be able to enjoy free travel on all local bus services within Perth and Kinross on the three Saturdays before Christmas.

Instead of paying a fare, passengers will be able to hop on board buses operated by Stagecoach East Scotland, Docherty’s Midland Coaches, Elizabeth Yule, Earnside Coaches and Bay Travel on December 10, 17 and 24 and travel free of charge. Passengers who have a free U22, 60+ or disabled concessionary bus pass should use their pass as normal to travel.

Councillor Andrew Parrott, convener of Perth and Kinross Council’s Environment, Infrastructure and Economic Development Committee, said: “The Cost-of-Living crisis is having a real impact on households, but this will make things a bit easier for people to do their Christmas shopping and support all retailers, restaurants and other traders including our local, independent ones – or to enjoy a day out to sample the festive fare on offer in Perth and Kinross.

“It also means people can leave the car at home, saving money on fuel and parking and helping cut emissions at the same time.”

“This is a fantastic initiative supported by Smarter Choices Smarter Places funding secured by the Council. We are working in partnership with local bus companies, who will be reimbursed for the free fares issued on the three Saturdays, to show there are better, more sustainable ways of travel out there than just taking the car.”

Operators Scottish Citylink, Ember, Flix, Parks of Hamilton, Megabus or Fisher Tours is not included in the free program.
